Stemshesten

Over the next few weeks, I have decided to write the occasional short post about things to see in and around Molde, in order for our foreign friends, who will be visiting in mid-July to attend a small party we're throwing, to be able to make informed decisions about what they want to do with their time.

Not too far north of Molde, there is a mountain called Stemshesten, which means something about a horse. At 650 or so meters, it's not a particularly tall mountain. It's supposed to provide a pretty spectacular view, however, and is definitely a good candidate for a trip. I've never actually been to the top myself, but according to the internets it's an easy trip, so it shouldn't be a problem.

When I was a kid. At midnight.
This has the added bonus of the possibility of leaving Rebekah and me in a quaint fishing village with occasional bouts of tourism.

I usually go there every summer - it's a pretty short and comfy walk, the view is fantastic and you can go for a swim at Farstad beach afterwards :)

Summer 2010, with a taller peak, Mælen, in the background - it's a nice walk to combine with Stemshesten if you want a longer hike.

Summer 2009, Farstadsanden is where we're going for a swim afterwards :)

Note that it's kind of foggy on both occasions - the sea fog tends to drift in, so it's a good idea to get the pretty early. I'd say driving from Molde at about 0900 is OK, but that's just a guesstimate.
